The Importance of Digital Security Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3500 words
The Importance of Digital Security - Essay Example The most essential need of every single organization is the digital security. Most importantly, the effective internet security has become a dire need for any kind of organization, small, medium or large which use the information technology and web based services to carry out their work in an easy and effective manner. As these organizations depend upon the internet, the implementation of internet security and monitoring of networks inside the organization has increased dramatically. The risks of security have increased to a great extent after the launch of broadband internet. Now-a-days, the home users and professionals, both are using this kind of internet connection. The different companies, be it private, public, non-government organizations, they all are depending upon the internet for the exchange of information. Internet also serves as the major means of communication between different channels. The risks of leakage of information and hacking of security have increased with th e dependency of organizations on the internet. KINDS OF THREATS Based on the goals and purposes of the attacks on any digital system, the threats can be categorized as STRIDE. It is an acronym which categorizes different types of threats. STRIDE stands for: Spoofing It gains access to a system by using a false identity. It can be done by using stolen user credentials or using a false IP. Tampering As data flows between two computers, it can be altered in an unauthorized manner. Repudiation These attacks are difficult to prove as the users deny that they performed any specific action. Information Disclosure When private data is unwontedly exposed, it is called information disclosure. Denial of Service It is the process that makes a system or application unavailable. Elevation of Privilege It happens when personnel with limited privileges takes up the identity of a privileged one, and performs certain privileged actions (McClure & Kurtz, 2009). Network Threats Routers, switches and fi rewalls make up the infrastructure of network. They are the gatekeepers that guard the system and applications from intrusions and attacks. The networks threats are as follows: i. Information gathering ii. Sniffing iii. Spoofing iv. Session Hijacking v. Denial of Service Information Gathering The attackers or hackers first scan the ports. After the identification of the ports, they detect the types of devices, operating system and versions of
Need to find a trending topic in the field of civil engineering Research Paper
Need to find a trending topic in the field of civil engineering - Research Paper Example The production involves an additive process different from the machining techniques that uses subtractive processes such as drilling and cutting. 3 D printing is exclusively done from digital models. The impact of 3 D printing is enormous and continues to shape the civil engineering sector. 3 D printing is being used in civil engineering in two main ways. Firstly, the technology has taken toll in prototyping. Engineers, architects and contractors have relied on 3 D prototyping in the recent times to manipulate designs and digital models to materials that are used in construction. It has been established that 3 D prototyping is an efficient, fast and cost friendly method in the fabrication of complex designs when high definitions are required. Prototyping enables production of high quality maps and plans that have well defined terrain and surface features. Secondly, distributed production has been utilized in the industry in manufacturing some of the raw materials. It takes into use d ispersed facilities used in manufacturing and are coordinated using information technology platforms. This aspect has boosted the activities of civil engineering industries that have a wide range of geographically separated activities. It reduces shipment and freight costs for the company. Engineering jobs have and will be affected by the technology. 3 D printing technology has been reported to contribute to job cut in the engineering sector (Frick 1). The automation in printing of models and the efficiency that accompanies has made many clients to seek 3 D printing services. For the last twenty years, 3 D printing companies in the world have demonstrated tremendous growth. Materialise, one of the companies that has retained the convectional methods, has employed approximately nine hundred people of which around eight hundred and fifty are engineers who play the role of designing projectsââ¬â¢ processes. This number of engineers is so big compared to the companies that have embra ced 3 D printing technology such as the New York based 3 D printing manufacturer, Shapeways that has less than one hundred employees (Frick 1). The customized design apps that are supplied by Shapeways make the role of engineers to be limited hence the smaller number of engineers that are required. In addition, the apps are capable of facilitating creation of more complex structural models. The additive strategy adopted by 3 D technology has many benefits over the convectional subtractive manufacturing methods. The results of the technology are evidenced by the ability to do local production; the only requirement is to have the digital designs in place. The designs are distributable through digital platforms, thereby can be retrieved through a networked computer system. Stocking is another problem that is avoided. Conventionally, engineering companies have been producing models that are kept in the stores, with 3 D technology, production is based on demand. Another advantage of the technology is the ability to print wholesome products instead of joining parts together; this reduces the need for assembling while facilitating the production to be made at the point of demand. A deviation from the convectional manufacturing where engineering products were made in a particular fixed way, 3 D printing technology allows for customization of a product according to the specific needs of the client. In addition, the speed of production is highly improved, hence saving on the time required for the

Planning Group Policy Software Deployments Assignment
Planning Group Policy Software Deployments - Assignment Example And as the systems advance, so do their working limits. 1. Efficient Installation of Software Using Each Phase of System Development Life Cycle A software installation for the security of Intellectual property is an uphill task in lieu of the complexities associated with the installation phase. System administrators are normally expected to be literate about the software and know what they are doing and thus most often no restrictions are imposed even by the most protected systems during software installs. To perform new software installations for several hundred users at a Californian firm as a junior network administrator, the problems and ambiguities faced during the installation phase cannot be over looked as they can stream in to extra costs. The threats imposed by the installation can be governed if certain strategies are employed at execution phase which includes assurance of no interference between the processing of un trusted/new software and existing packages, restriction o n the execution of new/un trusted softwareââ¬â¢s access to the operations other than that of the sand box and new/ un trusted software should be easily uninstall able if the need persists (Sun, Sekar, Liang, Venkatakrishnan, 2009 (Bender RBT Inc., 2003) (Eric Chien, 2005) (Ke Min Gu, 2009) (Russ Johnson, 2000) (Abbas Rajabifard, Ali Monsourian and Ian Williamson, 2004)). For the efficient installation of software at controlled costs and keeping in view the above requirements of maintaining a control on installation phase, System Development Life cycle (SDLC) has to be incorporated. It finally is a solution introduced by software engineering that has been evolved from the understanding of improvement needed in the development process of creating system. It basically is an abstract model that describes the stages involved in project management as it paves the methodology right from the beginning of suitability operations to the overhauling of complete performance. It is based upon the objectives of ensuring the delivery of high quality systems, strong management and control systems for projects and capitalizes on the system staff for productivity and efficient yield (Bender RBT Inc., 2003). It comes with guidance and instructions for how to install it, staying in line with its objectives of system security. It offers a very user friendly installation that can be of great help for the junior network administrator as it has the ability to support many different kinds and scopes of systems and projects, providing support to the incorporation of technical activities, providing support and coordination for all of the management activities and being user friendly and highly useable. In general, System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) has seven phases. As a Californian firm Administrator, I can incorporate them for the safe and low cost working of my systems. 1. Conceptual Planning: It is the first step to guarantee end state solutions for userââ¬â¢s requirements. I t assesses the expected cost and risks, project feasibility, needs for the enhancement of the system and different project planning advances s are discussed. Two major parties designated during this phase of SDLC are System Support Agent (SSA) and System Development Agent (SDA) which are updated through the systemââ¬â¢s cycle. 2. Planning and Requirements Definitions: After the Californian firmââ¬â¢s Information Technology administrator has assessed the feasibility of the project

Perceptions of Crime in the Media Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Perceptions of Crime in the Media - Essay Example The murder of a six-year-old girl, JonBenet Ramsey, in 1996 received great attention with the media taking a close follow up with each new unfolding. The occurrence of such crimes receives great attention from many people most of whom rely on the media for information regarding the case. As such, the media is compelled to take a keen interest in the cases simultaneously ensuring that no important unfolding is left out. Additionally, the media is always on the lookout for seemingly newsworthy stories that will receive great attention from the public. Taking a look at the JonBenet case, it seems to have all the desirable ingredients to spark peopleââ¬â¢s attention. The death of a six-year-old girl by strangling is not an ordinary day to day scenario hence there lies many questions about the incident. With this increased public interest in the case, the media could not be left out as it sought to report on the case development. However, in the course of reporting on such sensitive ca ses, the media is seemingly negligent of the wellbeing of the victims. This is especially from the perspective where the media is seemingly negligent of the implications of the statements used to describe the case. For example, in JonBenetââ¬â¢s case, the media gave an implication that JonBenetââ¬â¢s family was responsible for the murder. The media reported on the growing suspicions of the parents and this took a quick turn for the family from victims to villains. The public suddenly took a different stand from sympathizing with the parents to thinking of them as the perpetrators. This sudden twist was greatly fueled by the mediaââ¬â¢s efforts to report on each unfolding oblivious of the implications presented by giving sensitive information. The Ramseyââ¬â¢s tried to prove their innocence in the media for a long period of time but the suspicions were seemingly far from over.

Argumentation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 3
Argumentation - Essay Example While many experts decry the negative effects of global warming, it is in fact turning out that global warming is a good phenomenon going by its numerous positive benefits. Scientists note that the earthââ¬â¢s temperature is rising undoubtedly as a result of the greenhouse effect. The atmosphere is saturated with carbon dioxide that traps heat leading to a steady increase in the earthââ¬â¢s temperature and consequently, changes in climate. This carbon dioxide does not come from outer space but from burnt fossil fuels such as oil, natural gas, and coal. The other factor contributing to global warming and climate change is the rate at which forests are lost, especially within the tropics as a result of deforestation. Scientists are overwhelmingly in agreement that global warming is a reality and that human activities are its main causes. (Union of Concerned Scientist par 6-7). According to scientists, each year, for the past 37 years, has been warmer than the average temperature of all the years in the 20th century. In the United States, the 12 warmest years have occurred since 1998 with 2012 standing out as the hottest years. Since the late 1800s there has been an increase of more than one degree Fahrenheit on the average surface temperature of the earth. The past three decades have experienced the lionââ¬â¢s share of this increase (Union of Concerned Scientist par 4-6). The current decade has been the warmest since 1880. Scientists note that the earth could experience a 7.2 degree Fahrenheit increase in temperature in the 21 century if nothing is done to curb global warming. This would be the case if emissions from fossil fuels such as oil and coal, which are the main culprits, not reduced. Scientists are worried that a number of negative consequences in relation to global warming are quite evident (Natural Resource Defence Council par1). For one, weather

Anti-Trust Laws Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Anti-Trust Laws - Essay Example The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), created in 1914 when President Woodrow Wilson signed the Federal Trade Commission Act into law, is a US government agency tasked with protecting consumers by preventing anti-competitive business practices. In terms of public policy, the FTC has a broad regulatory mandate to reign in organizations judged to have engaged in activities that stifle industry competition, thus eliminating products or services from reaching the marketplace that are overpriced, substandard or lacking in the innovation that true competition would engender.FTC chairpersons have wide discretion regarding the cases pursued by the agency. For example, despite a global antitrust campaign mounted by computer chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices against rival Intel, which is supported by at least two FTC commissioners as well as by trade regulators in Korea and the European Commission, current agency head Deborah P. Majoras recently declined to open a formal investigation into the matt er (Labaton 1).In the FTC case against the Wisconsin Chiropractic Association (WCA), it was alleged that the organization and its executive director Russell A. Leonard violated Section 5 of the Federal Trade Commission Act, 15 U.S.C. à § 45 by conspiring to advise members of the more than 900-member association on how to increase prices for chiropractic services based on new billing codes and to boycott managed care plans in order to receive higher reimbursement rates (ââ¬Å"Complaintâ⬠).
